Quargentan SpA originated as a winery in the esteemed Soave region, renowned for its vine cultivation. Pioneering in Italy, we were the first to blend traditional wine bottling methods with innovative polylaminate (brik) packaging. This technology not only propelled our wine business but also enabled expansion into fruit juice, beverages, and tomato puree sectors. Saffron, the world's most prized spice, originates from the delicate red stigmas of the saffron crocus, a beautiful violet flower. Thriving in extreme climates of hot, dry summers and cold winters, and nourished by well-balanced soil, the saffron crocus blooms for just a few days in autumn. This marks the beginning of a meticulous process, simultaneously tough and delicate, to harvest the precious spice. To preserve its properties, saffron flowers must be harvested at sunrise, with buds carefully plucked before full bloom. Through an artisanal process passed down through generations, stigmas are painstakingly separated from the flowers. From each harvested flower, only three stigmas are obtained, swiftly dried for long-term preservation, encapsulating the essence of this revered spice.

Since its inception as a family bakery in 1893, the Schouten business has transformed into a global leader in plant-based product development, production, and packaging by 2024. After starting as a baker, Klaas Schouten diversified into cattle feed sales in 1930.
